*This listing is for seconds of the Vence Sconce. Each piece is uniquely imperfect.
The Vence Sconce, designed by Athena Calderone and Simone Bodmer-Turner, is offered here as a very limited run of seconds. Inspired by shells often found in old European churches, the artisanal piece is a decorative ode to the holy water basins at Chapelle du Rosarie—a small church in the hillside north of Nice that was the iconic artist Henri Matisse’s final project for his nurse, caretaker, and muse Sister Jacques-Marie.
Upon close inspection, you may see evidence of the repairs, often more times on the backside than the outward-facing front. Sconces from Group I through to Group M became warped in the kiln rendering the cavity where the lighting kit is usually installed too shallow. These are listed at 65% off because they are fit solely for sculpture use and not suitable for lighting. All of these sconces are beautiful in their own unique way and we're excited to see them live on in your spaces.
Opening in the back for lighting: 2 1/4” x 4 1/4" *If applicable
Finish: Textured White Clay
Materials: Clay, UL-certified LED light insert
Can be displayed as a sculpture or installed as a sconce using the included hardwire kit. Please note if installed as a sconce, the hardwire may be slightly visible as each piece is unique. *If applicable
Display: Sculpture or Light Sconce *If applicable
Hardwire: UL-certified LED light insert *If applicable
This is a one-of-a-kind item and therefore each one is unique. Variations in color, texture, size, and shape should be expected.
